PETER G. HUBBELL
Peter G. Hubbell is a Principal and Co-founder of Water Resource Associates, Inc. (WRA), a civil engineering and environmental consulting firm based in Tampa, Fla. Hubbell was formerly Executive Director of the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) for the last eight years of his 19-year tenure there. As Executive Director, he was responsible for water resources in a 16-county region and overall management of District operations.
Hubbell and WRA co-founder Mark Farrell are credited with pioneering innovative water management practices that are now modeled or legislated throughout the State of Florida and nationally as examples of progressive natural resource management. These include strategies and techniques for:
- Resource Management and Regulatory Programs for Sustainable Water Resources
- Development and Protection of Water Supplies
- Integrated Water Management Planning
- Alternative Water Supply Development
- International Technology Transfer
- Alternative Dispute Resolution for Environmental Conflicts
- Public and K-12 Educational Outreach on the Environment and Water Management
Hubbell is a founding member of the International Water Resource Network's Policy Council. He was the Chair of Florida's Bluebelt Commission on Aquifer Recharge, a former member of the board of the Florida Conflict Resolution Consortium and past member of a National Research Council Committee on Valuing the Nation's Groundwater Supplies. In 1997 he was awarded the American Water Resources Association's William C. Ackermann Medal for Excellence in Water Management.
He earned a B.S. in Hydrology and Water Resource Management from the University of Maryland and is certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a mediator.
